Vietnam to host NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge
Organizers within the startup ecosystem in Vietnam are coming together to hold the first ever International Space Apps Challenge. This challenge is hosted by the National Aeronautics Space Association of the USA (NASA), which has landed 12 people on the moon and currently operates a rover on Mars among other scientific and technological feats. It is part of NASA’s initiative to teach people about space and to encourage open-source solution to address global needs of earth. As part of the event, NASA will open up its data and API’s to the wider global community to create useful apps and devices for the global populace.
The Space Apps Challenge is a hackathon event, and will take place for 48 hours. It is an opportunity for people who like to code as well as people who are interested in making hardware devices and robotics. It is on 12th and 13th of April, but the organizers will hold a pre-event on March 21st for interested developers. In HCM the hackathon will take place at Saigon Hub, in HN it will take place in Hub.IT, the two most popular co-working space in Vietnam.
This will be a big opportunity for developers and engineers who are interested to interact with rich data from NASA, as well as people who are very interested in space and life sciences. In 2013, there were over eight hackathons organized in Vietnam, with hundreds of developers across the country participating. The International Space Apps Challenges seeks to bring the ambition and sophistication of hackathons to the next level.
In order to pull off such a large project, the organizers of the International Space Apps Challenge in Vietnam include companies: Habataku, WebM, Officience, Ticketbox, Twenty.vn, Tech In Asia, Saigon Hub, MyProClub, HATCH and Viet Youth Entrepreneurs.
