[1st interview] When Offies come to Agile Tour 2014

16 Offies participated to the Agile Tour Vietnam 2014 which was held at HCMC last weekend on November 7th-8th. Among them, some people already knew about Agile, some didn’t. No matter what their motivation was, they came to Agile Tour with one common purpose: to learn and to improve their working skills based on Agile methodology.

At Officience, some interviews were organized in the first week after Agile Tour, helping me to learn interesting ideas about Agile, but also letting them spread their new knowledge to their colleagues.

 I met Amane SAID, who joined the event for the 1st time in Vietnam, but had already experienced  Agile for 2  years at Officience.

Can you introduce yourself ? Which session you attended in Agile Tour 2014 ?

Hello, I’m Amane, 26 years old, I worked for Officience for 3 years, at Consulting team.

At Agile, I attended “How to estimate in your team” (effort or complexity?), “Scrum in corporate environment”, “Agile test automation and Continuous Delivery”, “Scrum, NanoScrum, Kanban, ScrumBan”, “Kaizen Basics”, “From agility to holacracy”.

Why did you participate to Agile Tour 2014?

I want to know how it works in other organizations, and share experiences with Agilists.

 Could you make a summary of some sessions you attended ? What did you like in those sessions ? What was striking about those sessions ?

At “Kaizen Basics”, we played a game. The objective is to have the attendants learn the basic concept of Kaizen.

 How to play: we passed a ball one by one as quickly as possible without letting it fall. When restarting, improve it.

(Kaizen or “continuous improvement” is the core of almost all adaptive methods of-course including Scrum and other agile methods.)

At “How to estimate in your team” session we had an overview of the Planning Poker concept.

How it works:

  1. classify client requirements (user stories) in your backlog from small to big

  2. cluster them, if possible (similar user stories with similar size together)

  3. place it in the Planning Poker by giving story-points to each user-story / cluster (using Fibonacci numbers, t-shirt size, 1 to 10, etc.)

Would you recommend these sessions to your friends? Why?

Yes, “Kaizen” because it helps improve the production quality continuously, and “Project Estimation” because it helps us to give a better visibility on our estimations and have a better control of our backlog.
